Terms
The rules that apply to using LocalType and this website. Written to be read, rather than to be impressive.
Last updated: 27 July 2026
These terms are a draft while LocalType is in testing, and will be finalised before public release.
1. Who these terms are with
The legal entity operating LocalType will be named here before public release.
By installing or using LocalType, or by using this website, you accept these terms.
2. What LocalType is
LocalType is an Android keyboard with voice typing built in. Speech recognition runs on your device using a speech model that you download.
It is a tool for typing and dictating. It is not an assistant, and it does not make decisions on your behalf.
3. Using it sensibly
You may use LocalType for anything lawful. You may not use it to break the law, and you may not attempt to redistribute, resell or reverse engineer the application except where the law expressly permits it.
You are responsible for what you write and dictate using it.
4. The beta
LocalType is currently in testing. Beta software is by definition unfinished: it may contain defects, behave inconsistently across devices, or stop working after an update.
Beta versions are provided without charge and without warranty. Do not rely on a beta version for anything where an error would matter to you.
We may change or end the beta programme at any time.
5. Price and subscription
The intended model after release is a free trial followed by an annual subscription. LocalType is not on sale yet, and nothing on this website constitutes an offer to sell.
When a paid version is released, purchases and subscriptions run through Google Play and are subject to Google’s terms, including its rules on renewals, cancellation and refunds. Prices may vary per market.
This section will be completed before any payment is taken.
6. Speech models
Speech models are downloaded to your device at your request and remain subject to the licence terms of the model concerned.
Transcription accuracy varies with the model you choose, your device, the language spoken, accent, and background noise. We do not warrant that transcription will be accurate, and you should check what has been dictated before relying on it.
7. Availability
We aim to keep this website and the model downloads available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Transcription itself does not depend on our servers once a model is installed on your device.
8. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of LocalType, including loss arising from inaccurate transcription.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
9. Privacy
How personal data is handled is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
10. Changes
These terms may change as the product develops. The date at the top shows when they were last revised. Continuing to use LocalType after a change means accepting the revised terms.
11. Getting in touch
Questions about these terms can go to hello@localtype.net.
